I don’t live in Tucson. Can I still purchase tile for installation and get design help?

We will be happy to work with you directly. We have successfully completed numerous long distance projects communicating by phone, and/or email. And, we have experience in a variety of ways to prepare and ship your tile project.

Do you accept debit and/or credit cards?

In store we accept all debit cards and all major credit cards except American Express. Online we accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover and PayPal.

I’m seeing a lot of Santa Theresa-style tiles for sale on eBay – are you authorizing these sales?

No, we are not. Only true Santa Theresa Tiles are sold through our store, authorized retail distributors or on our website. If you find Santa Theresa-style tiles on any other website e.g. eBay or Etsy, we do not guarantee the quality of the product nor its authenticity. We do conduct workshops throughout the year where we teach participants how to create Santa Theresa-style tile. You might be finding tile made by some of our past students.

I just bought some more of your tile to match a few I had at home, they are the same tile but the glazes don’t match. Why?

Our glazes may differ in color and surface quality due to variations in glaze application, temperature and atmosphere during the firing process, and alterations in the raw materials supplied by our vendors. This natural variation is intrinsic to their beauty. In fact, for large custom field tile orders, we require that customers approve 6 tiles as color samples during the fabrication process. These samples illustrate the variations that can be expected. For those customers purchasing from our in-stock tile inventory, we recommend that you purchase more than you need as tiles purchased later may not match exactly.

What is the difference between a mosaic and a tile?

According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of a mosaic is a surface decoration made by inlaying small pieces of variously colored material to form pictures or patterns; while a tile is a flat or curved piece of fired clay, stone, or concrete used especially for roofs, floors, or walls and often for ornamental work. Santa Theresa-style tiles are flat pieces of fired clay that can be purchased individually or together to produce a mosaic.

What is the process for ordering custom tile?

There are 2 ways to order custom tile:

1. Custom or Made-to-Order tile: If you can’t find what you want in our showroom stock, then we can make it for you—Santa Theresa Style! Design fees may apply.

2. Custom Tile Project: Contact our showroom with your tile project idea. A tile artist will be assigned to you to discuss your intention and the scope of your project, including dimensions and a target budget. With this information the artist can provide you with a design concept that includes the best options to meet your desired goals. Click through Order Custom Tile to find more detail information. Can I purchase tile samples from you?

Yes, however we do not make samples of our tiles per se, customers may purchase specific tile (s) as examples from our online shop or in-store stock. We do, sometimes, provide a few tile samples as part of our design fee for custom tile projects to help communicate the design concept.

 

Shipments, Returns and Cancellations

How long will it take me to receive my tile?

All orders are processed within 24 business hours of receipt. All of our tiles are handmade and all orders are produced in the order received, therefore, our production times vary and are not guaranteed. We try very hard to adhere to the following guidelines:
In-stock tiles – 1 to 2 weeks
Custom tile or out-of-stock – 4 to 6 weeks
Custom designed projects or large quantities of tile – individual contract basis

Standard shipments are Priority Mail via USPS with most shipments arriving within 3 – 5 days of being sent from our studio. Large quantity orders and custom projects will be shipped by the best means available.

What are your shipping charges?

We are very proud to use USPS as our delivery carrier of choice. Shipments within Arizona are subject to 9.1% sales tax.

We use Priority Mail to ship all over the continental US. We do ship internationally; please contact us for shipping charges. Shipping rates within the United States are listed below:

What is your cancellation policy on tile orders? For workshops?

Online shop or in-store stock orders can be cancelled at any time prior to shipping. Cancellations are not accepted on any custom or made-to-order tile already in production.

For workshops: Full refunds will only be provided for workshop cancellations when received more than 2 weeks prior to the start of the class.  If a cancellation is received less than 2 weeks prior to the start of the workshop – a credit will only be issued.  This can be used towards products we sell or other workshops.

What is your return policy? Can I return unused materials?

We do not provide any refunds or exchanges for custom or made-to-order tile.

You may receive a full refund on any unused and unbroken tile purchased from stock, either in store or online, if returned within 30 days of our ship date. Customers are responsible for all return shipping charges. Returns will only be credited to a credit card once Santa Theresa Tile Works can verify receipt and condition of the returned tile.

After 30 days, we will accept any unused and unbroken tile purchased from our online shop or in-store stock, however customers will be charged a 25% restocking fee. Customers are responsible for all return shipping charges. Returns will only be credited to a credit card once Santa Theresa Tile Works can verify receipt and condition of the returned tile

What if my tile order is lost or damaged in shipping?

Inspect your tile immediately upon delivery. We insure all shipments for the amount of purchase; therefore any damage or loss should be reported by you directly with the carrier. Please contact us with your claim information so that we can determine with the carrier the most immediate way to replace your tile.

Installation signifies acceptance. No post-installation adjustments will be made.

 

Specifications

May I use your tiles around my fireplace? Are they heat-resistant?

Our tiles are fired in kilns at temperatures of approximately 2000 degrees Fahrenheit and will not be damaged by heat. Please browse through our residential idea galleries for examples. For a custom tile order, please contact us.

How do your tiles perform in direct sunlight? Do they fade?

Our tiles do not fade over time in direct sunlight because the color of the tile is created by high temperatures—not even our home, Tucson, Arizona, gets that hot!

Can I use your tile for flooring?

Yes. Our tile is high fired and very durable for both indoors and outdoors. They are flat and unglazed on the bottom for easy installation. Please browse through our idea galleries for examples. Contact us to place a custom tile order.

Can I use your tile in the bathroom or kitchen backsplash? Pool surround?

Yes. Our tile is water resistant and frost resistant due to the clay bodies we use and our firing temperatures and, therefore, suitable for bathrooms, kitchens and pools. For easier installation on vertical surfaces, we can mesh-mount our tile for a fee. However, we recommend that your installer follow the guidelines set forth by the Tile Council of North America for these specific conditions.

Can I use your tile on a wood surface like a trivet or photo frame?

We sell wooden trivets and ornamental boxes with a reveal, perfect for our tile. These pieces are used mostly as gifts or wall hangings. However, we do not recommend using the trivets for more than decorative purposes, as the wood finish will not be able to withstand the heat or moisture.

How much tile will I need?

Our custom tile is made to fit the dimensions that you provide. Therefore if you have a backsplash space of 300 sq ft, then you will need 300 sq ft of our tile. If you are using our in-stock tile, then we will make every effort to choose tiles from our inventory that fit your space best.

Do you sell large quantities?

Yes. We can make large quantities of tile for your next project. All we need are the dimensions of the space you need to cover. Contact us to place a custom tile order.

Do you make square field tile?

Yes we can make square and rectangular tile in a variety of sizes.

 

Installation and Care

How can I clean your mosaic tile once I have installed it?

Start with a mild soap and water. There are also a number of commercial tile and grout cleaners on the market.

How can I install your mosaic tile by myself?

You can install our mosaic tile just like standard tile using the mortar or mastic most appropriate for the substrate and location. Your mortar and grout vendor should be able to help you determine the best products. Ask us about mesh-mounting the mosaic tile for easy installation on vertical surfaces. Epoxy mortar is necessary only with unusual substrates and locations.

What type of grout do you recommend?

Make sure your choice of grout is suitable for the area that you are covering. . We recommend and use sanded grout for all Santa Theresa Tile Works installations. Sanded grout is used for tiles that require a grout space larger than 1/8″. STTW typically uses Custom Building Products’ Polyblend Sanded Grout. However, there are many grout manufacturers on the market.

Other grout types may be used for special applications; please consult with your installer or give us a call to determine the correct grout for your installation. Epoxy grout may be required in commercial food prep and sales facilities, as determined by your local health regulations.

How much grout will I need?

Typically 1 cup of grout will cover ½ sqft of tile space.

Where can I buy your recommended grout?

We sell small bags of grout in a variety of colors. Our bags hold 1 cup of grout, which will cover ½ sqft of tile space. If you are looking to cover a much larger space try your local tile shop or home improvement store like Home Depot or Lowe’s.

Should I use a grout sealer?

We recommend a penetrating grout sealer to ensure adequate protection. To purchase try your local tile shop or home improvement store like Home Depot or Lowe’s. There are a variety of sealers on the market. Read the labels for the correct application.

Can I use “No Days” products with your tile?

Yes. Our tile is high-fired to 2500F and easily can withstand the heat from the heat gun while using No Days.

Should I seal my tile?

The only tile that may need any type of sealing is an unglazed tile. Glazed tiles are essentially “sealed.”
